Seeking the Lord / Buscando el Señor

This past week we had 7 days of fasting and prayer at church. Our Nica church typically considers a fast being from the time you wake up (or 6am) until 2pm, and during a fast they hold a church service so we can all be together praying and worshiping. This time they also held a service every evening. We were unable to attend the services during the week due to Orlando's new job (more on that later) and our church is in one of the most dangerous barrios (neighborhoods) in Diriamba and Andrea doesn't go there alone. So we participated in the fasting but not the services. This is the first time in 3 years that we know of our church doing a week-long fast like this and it was powerful. Each member of the church was given an envelope that had a list of names in it. We were to pray for the people on our list daily - most were church members but there were also names of those who have left the church or those who church members have been evangelizing and visiting. Andrea's list actually had our family on it -- Orlando, his mom, grandma, close family friend, and Andrea herself! -- , at first we sort of laughed at that, but it was good to take the time to be more intentional in praying for the family and it allowed her to pray more specifically as she knew their current situations. 

Sunday was Orlando's day off so we were able to attend the fast service and afternoon service. It was such joy to be together with the body on the last day of fasting. Orlando went grateful for the job the Lord has provided for him and Andrea went feeling a joy and hope for promises the Lord has renewed in her. The whole church body radiated a joy and hope that seemed contagious. There was victory over sicknesses, there was prophecy over church members, and there was freedom. There was victory. The church has been strengthened through this time. We are joyful in the Lord. We are prepared for battle. And when the battle comes, our joy will remain.

La semana pasada tuvimos 7 días de ayuno y oración en la iglesia. Nuestra iglesia normalmente considera un ayuno de ser desde el momento en que se despierta (o 6 am) hasta las 2pm, y durante un ayuno hacen un culto en la iglesia para que todos podamos estar juntos orando y adorando. En esta ocasión también se celebró con una campaña cada noche. No pudimos asistir a los servicios durante la semana debido al nuevo trabajo de Orlando (más sobre esto más adelante) y nuestra iglesia se encuentra en uno de los barrios más peligrosos en Diriamba y Andrea no vaya sola. Así que participamos en el ayuno, pero no los servicios. Esta es la primera vez en 3 años que sabemos de nuestra iglesia hace una semana de ayuno como esta y era poderoso. Cada miembro de la iglesia se le dio un sobre que tenía una lista de nombres en él. Pidieron que oramos por las personas en nuestra lista cada día - la mayoría eran miembros de la iglesia, pero también había nombres de aquellos que han dejado la iglesia o los que miembros de la iglesia han estado evangelizando y visitando. La lista de Andrea tenía realmente nuestra familia en él -- Orlando, su mamá, abuela, amiga cercano de la familia, y Andrea sí misma! -- al principio reímos de eso, pero fue bueno para tomar el tiempo para ser más intencional en la oración por la familia y que permitió a orar más específicamente como sabía su situación actual. 



El domingo fue el día libre de Orlando entonces pudimos asistir el culto del ayuno y el culto de la tarde. Fue alegre de estar juntos con el cuerpo de Cristo en el último día de ayuno. Orlando fue agradecido por el trabajo que el Señor ha proveído para él y Andrea se fue sintiendo una alegría y la esperanza de las promesas que el Señor ha renovado en ella. El cuerpo de la iglesia entera irradiaba una alegría y esperanza que parecía contagiosa. Hubo victoria sobre enfermedades, hubo profecía sobre miembros de la iglesia, y había libertad. Hubo victoria. La iglesia se ha fortalecido a través de este tiempo. Estamos alegres en el Señor. Estamos preparados para la batalla. Y cuando llegue la batalla, nuestra alegría se mantendrá.
