Kari's Birthday / El Cumpleaños de Kari

Kari's birthday was on February 14th. We had fun making her feel special by decorating her room & buying her flowers and chocolate. We also took her out to lunch for a cheeseburger, and it was soooo good! Andrea made her a Strawberry cake (with real strawberries!) with Cream Cheese and Strawberry frosting. Happy Birthday Kari! El cumpleaños de Kari fue el 14 de febrero. Nos divertimos haciéndola sentir especial por decorar cuarto & comprandola flores y chocolate. También la llevamos a almorzar una hamburguesa con queso, y fue riquísimo  Andrea hizo un pastel de fresa (con fresas reales!) con baño de queso crema y fresas. Feliz Cumpleaños Kari! Hasta Luego Luis

At the end of February one of our good friends, Luis, moved to Costa Rica as he is hoping to study there. He has been a good friend over the years whether it was playing soccer with Orlando, coming over for dinner, helping us save the house from flooding, playing with the dogs, taking random trips with us, etc. We will miss him but hope to see him in the future whether it be in Nicaragua or Costa Rica. Best of luck, Luis! May the Lord open doors for you as you seek Him.

Al final de febrero uno de nuestros buenos amigos, Luis, se trasladó a Costa Rica porque quiere  estudiar allí. Él ha sido un buen amigo en los últimos años, jugando fútbol con Orlando, viendo a cenar, lo que ayuda a salvar la casa de las inundaciones, jugando con los perros, haciendo viajes al ultimo momento con nosotros, etc. Lo vamos a extrañar, pero esperamos verle en el futuro ya sea en Nicaragua o Costa Rica. Lo mejor de la suerte, Luis! Que el Señor abra puertas para ti como tu lo buscas.

Orlando's Birthday Surprise / La Sorpresa para el Cumpleaños de Orlando

Kari and Andrea decided to take Orlando on his first ever canopy tour for his birthday. We weren't able to go actually on his birthday, but a week late didn't make much of a difference to him. He knew we had a surprise for him but wanted it to remain a surprise until we arrived. So we got on the bus to Jinotepe and he quickly figured out we were at least getting on the Granada bus. On the Granada bus, Andrea secretly asked the money collector how much it was to Mombacho. Orlando didn't even realize we were getting off when the bus stopped. They had a truck waiting for us and thanks to Kari we didn't walk right past it! We got in the truck and the driver asked us which tour we would be doing, at which point Andrea responded with "canopy tour". Orlando put his hands to his head and exclaimed, "Oh my goodness!" as he got a rush of excited and fear.

Andrea and Kari had been on the canopy tour at Mombacho before but they had changed a few things - including a new "Tarzan Swing" and ending with a Rappel - which made it a new experience for us as well. At the end of it all, Orlando decided it was a great gift and we enjoyed the outing together. We had a picnic lunch of taco salad afterwards while Kari and Orlando enjoyed sampling coffee.  (Photos below Spanish)

Kari y Andrea decidieron llevar a Orlando en su primer tour de canopy para su cumpleaños. No fuimos capaces de ir realmente en la fecha de su cumpleaños, pero una semana más tarde no hizo mucha diferencia para él. Él sabía que teníamos una sorpresa para él, pero quería que sea una sorpresa hasta que llegamos. Así que nos tomamos el autobús a Jinotepe y rápidamente Orlando se dio cuenta de que íbamos al menos a subir al autobús a Granada. En el autobús de Granada, Andrea secretamente preguntó al cobrador cuánto era para Mombacho. Orlando ni siquiera se dio cuenta de que íbamos a bajar cuando el autobús se detuvo. Tenían un camión esperando por nosotros y gracias a Kari que no lo perdimos! Subimos al camión y el conductor nos preguntó cual tour estaríamos haciendo, y en ese momento Andrea respondió con "tour de canopy". Orlando llevó las manos a la cabeza y exclamó: "¡Oh my goodness!" mientras se llenaba con una oleada de emociones y miedo.

Andrea y Kari habían hecho el tour de canopy en Mombacho antes, pero habían cambiado algunas cosas - incluyendo un nuevo "Tarzan Swing" y terminan con un Rappel - que hizo una experiencia nueva para nosotros también. Al final de todo, Orlando decidió que era un gran regalo y disfrutamos de la excursión juntos. Después tuvimos un almuerzo tipo picnic de la ensalada de taco mientras Kari y Orlando probaron el café. Orlando's Birthday / El Cumpleaños de Orlando

Orlando turned the big 27 on February 3rd. Andrea woke him up in the morning by throwing balloons into our bed (which worked nicely because of the new mosquito net she made so it was like a balloon cage). The he was serenaded by Kari on the guitar (Nica tradition). We enjoyed Apple Crisp for breakfast and he headed down to the farm to spend time with his mom while Andrea made his cake. His brother came with his family and we had a grill out at the farm - grilled pork, rice, cabbage salad, and Calala to drink. Happy Birthday Orlando! May this coming year be full of blessings and growth! (Photos below Spanish)

Orlando cumplió el gran 27 el 3 de febrero. Andrea lo despertó en la mañana lanzandole chimbabas en la cama (que salió muy bien debido al nuevo mosquitero que fue como una jaula de balón). Después recibió una serenata por Kari en la guitarra (tradición Nica). Disfrutamos Crsip de Manzana para el desayuno y Orlando se fue a la finca para pasar tiempo con su madre, mientras que Andrea hizo su pastel. Su hermano llegó con su familia y tuvimos una parrillada - cerdo asado, arroz, ensalada de repollo y Calala para beber. ¡Feliz cumpleaños Orlando! ¡Que este próximo año este lleno de bendiciones y crecimiento!

Update on Bayardo / Noticias de Bayardo

First of all, thank you to all who have prayed for and/or contributed financially to Bayardo's operation. It has been an incredible journey for him as well as us.

Bayardo was able to receive his operation on January 25th. His surgery lasted 4 hours instead of the anticipated 2 due to the fact that his bones were more shattered than expected. They were able to successfully piece his bones back together and align it "almost perfectly". He had 2 weeks of resting and keeping his leg elevated. He has had a few follow up appointments and on February 21st got his stitches taken out and was put in a walking cast. His next check-up will be on March 28th where he will get an x-ray to see how he is progressing.

He was able to enroll this month in his seminary courses and start his second year in pastoral studies. He and his family are beyond grateful for this second opportunity he has been given.  (Photos below Spanish)

En primer lugar, muchas gracias a todos los que han orado y / o contribuido financieramente a la operación de Bayardo. Ha sido un viaje increíble para él, así como para nosotros. 

Bayardo fue capaz de recibir su operación el 25 de enero. Su cirugía duró 4 horas en lugar de las 2 anticipadas debido al hecho de que sus huesos eran más destrozado de lo esperado. Ellos fueron capaces de reconstruir con éxito sus huesos de nuevo juntos y alinearlos "casi perfecto". Él tenía 2 semanas de reposo y mantener la pierna elevada. Ha tenido algunas citas de chequeo y el 21 de febrero consiguió que le retiraran las puntadas y le pusieron una bota ortopédica para caminar. Su próximo chequeo médico será el 28 de marzo, donde obtendrá una radiografía para ver cómo está progresando. 

Él fue capaz de inscribirse este mes en sus cursos de seminario e iniciar su segundo año en estudios pastorales. Él y su familia están muy agradecidos por esta segunda oportunidad que se le ha dado. (Fotos abajo)
